Cellulite, or dimply skin that resembles an orange peel, is a common problem among people of all shapes and sizes. Some may think that cellulite is synonymous with being overweight, but this is an incorrect assumption. Cellulite has more to do with the quality of the skin than with the number on the scale. For years, companies have been releasing creams and lotions that claim to eradicate cellulite. And for just as many years, consumers have been frustrated to discover that these topical products don’t work. Luckily, Cynosure has come to the rescue by releasing Cellulaze, now available at the Chicago plastic surgery practice of Dr. John Bull.
Cellulaze is a laser cellulite reduction system that delivers exceptional results by treating the structural problems that cause cellulite. The best candidates are women who maintain a healthy weight but have mild to moderate amounts of cellulite on their thighs.
To understand why most cellulite creams and lotions don’t work, it’s important to consider what causes cellulite. Cellulite is caused by a combination of three structural problems: trapped fat pockets, fibrous bands that become rigid and pull down on the skin (causing the dimpling effect) and poor skin quality that lacks elasticity. Products that are applied superficially to the skin cannot reach the fibrous bands or the pockets of fat trapped between them.
Cellulaze is one of the most effective cellulite reduction systems available today because it treats cellulite at its core. By delivering laser energy directly under the skin, it achieves three things. First, it improves the thickness and elasticity of the skin. Then, it releases the fibrous bands that trap the fat and pull the skin down. Also, it reduces or completely eliminates the pockets of fat that project through the bands.
Treatment with Cellulaze is not painful. Local anesthetic is used to numb the treatment area so patients only feel mild pressure, if anything, during the treatment. Dr. Bull makes tiny incisions (no bigger than the tip of a pen) and inserts a cannula containing the unique Cellulaze laser fiber. The laser releases energy that liquefies the pockets of fat, releases the fibrous bands, and stimulates the production of collagen to improve the quality and elasticity of the skin. The fat is then suctioned from the body.
After treatment, patients may feel a little sore or bruised, but this should dissipate quickly. Results may be visible after the first treatment, and will improve over time as more collagen develops.
